Bring your students to the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum for a field trip full of
hands-on learning, curiosity, imagination, and exploration!
Explorer Field Trips are self-guided field trips offering students the opportunity to explore the museum at their own pace. Groups will have time with both the first floor imaginary play exhibits and the second floor STEM-based exhibits.
$14.00 per child
One adult chaperone for every five children is admitted free; additional chaperones/parents are $10.00
Museum memberships cannot be used for school field trips
In addition to Explorer Field Trips for schools, daycares, and camps, we can also organize trips for PWD (groups of persons with disabilities). Please contact our educators for more information.
Discovery Field Trips include a program led by our museum educators. In addition, students get time to explore the exhibits on both our first and second floors.

Museum memberships cannot be used for school field trips
Programs are designed for students in grades PreK – 5th and most trips align with NYS Science and NGSS Standards.
Field Trips must be booked in advance. A minimum of 15 people (adults and children) are required for a group rate.
Adults are responsible for providing supervision of children during visits.
Space is available for students to bring and eat lunch at the museum. April-October, students will eat lunch outdoors, weather permitting. November-March, indoor space for lunch will be provided to groups smaller than 50 people. Tables must be reserved in advance.

We recommend 2 hours for an Explorer Trip and between 2.5 and 3 hours for a Discovery Trip. However, you may need to allot more time if your group is larger than 60 students. Lunch is typically an additional half hour.
1 adult for every 5 children are included with the field trip price. Additional chaperones will be charged an additional fee. Explorer programs can support as many adult chaperones as the group would like, however we recommend at minimum a 1:5 ratio. For Discovery programs, we recommend between a 1:5 and 1:4 ratio of adults to children. For daycares and special needs groups, please rely on your regular ratios and bring more adults if needed.
MHDM has limited parking, however we do block off parking spots for the buses to have the ability to maneuver. Buses should drop off students in front of the pavilion and then park either in the grass next to the pavilion or nearby in Waryas Park.
Because of the limited parking space, we ask that additional chaperones who are driving separately park at Waryas Park and walk over to the museum.
We offer a lunch space in the museum pavilion (Apr-Oct) or in the museum (Nov-Mar), however you must reserve this space in advance. We recommend at least 30 minutes for lunch.
Groups can store lunches and backpacks either in the pavilion or at the coat racks in the museum.
We cannot accept museum memberships for any group visit. If students or chaperones are museum members, they still must pay if they are participating in the group visit.
