Foodology: Popping Boba

August 23, 2019 | morning session 11:00 am - 11:45 am; afternoon session 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Summer Workshops – We are offering exciting workshops this summer all about science, ecology, art and food. When each workshop is finished children will get to make a pin-on button showing what they learned. Children are encouraged to wear their buttons every time they come to the museum. For every 4 buttons collected, children will get $4.00 off a  purchase of $5.00 or more at the Museum gift shop.

Food Science Workshops invite children and adults to explore the fascinating science behind the foods we eat every day.  This workshop is designed for children ages 4 – 6 and their parent/caregiver.  There is a different workshop theme each week during the summer!

This week’s theme: Popping Boba – Did you know seaweed extract is a common ingredient in many store-bought foods? It’s true! We’ll use this ingredient, otherwise known as sodium alginate, in a chemical reaction to make “Popping Boba”, little caviar-like bubbles of juicy flavor.

Workshop Cost:  $7.00 per child, plus museum admission.
