Autism Support

MHDM is proud to be partnering with Anderson Center for Autism to ensure that the Museum is an Autism Supportive Environment. We aim to support families that have young children with autism by providing extra support aids, offering special assistance and periodically offering designating special Museum hours for low-stimulation exploration. We provide visual and auditory supports (“Social Stories,” flip book exhibit guides, communication cue cards, sunglasses, and noise-cancelling headphones) and have identified special “quiet spaces” within the Museum to support the specific needs of children with autism and other sensory integration challenges.
