Volunteer

Volunteering can be a very rewarding experience. You will learn new skills and enjoying yourself while doing it. By bringing your own skills to the museum, you will feel the reward of sharing them with others. And so, if you have a passion for empowering children and families join us by becoming a volunteer! Volunteering your time, talents and skills at the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum is a great way to make a positive difference in the lives of children and their families.

As a volunteer, you support everything we do! Our Volunteer Program is open to individuals age 16+ who are looking for a meaningful way to contribute their valuable free time.

Volunteer Opportunities

Exhibit Floor Volunteer:  Enhance guest experience by helping families get the most out of our exhibits and educational activities. Exhibit Floor Volunteers help explain exhibit content, demonstrate how to use exhibits, and facilitate hands-on activities in our gallery spaces. MHDM exhibits offer many different types of interactive learning experiences from imaginative play and creative arts to early STEM and literacy.

Educational Programs: Perfect for volunteers with a specific interest in early education or with a skilled background in art, science, engineering, or early literacy – work with our Education team to facilitate Science Cart demonstrations, lead Art Studio activities, or lead Storytime activities.

Special Events: MHDM hosts many events throughout the year, attracting families from throughout the region. Special Event volunteers assist MHDM staff in set-up, facilitate activity stations, and tend to guests needs to ensure events run smoothly. Annual events include:  July 4th Fireworks Celebration, Halloween Spooktacular Weekend, and New Years @ Noon.

Facility and Exhibit Support: Do you have an advanced skill in cabinetry-making, electric work, plumbing, construction, sculpting, or welding? We often have exhibit and facility enhancement projects that require these special skills. We invite you to inquire!

All volunteer opportunities require a full background check.
